Daily Prayer for Sept 6th, 2018

Good morning, God—thank You! 🙂

Let me be skillful in my work, and on guard against greed. Free me from depriving myself of pleasure. In my toil may there be a profit, but everything I do, let me do for You and be content with what I have. In Jesus name. Amen.

Luke 12:13-15 English Standard Version (ESV)

The Parable of the Rich Fool

13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15 And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

Ecclesiastes 5:10-11 English Standard Version (ESV)

10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. 11 When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes?

Proverbs 23:4-5 English Standard Version (ESV)

Do not toil to acquire wealth;
be discerning enough to desist.
When your eyes light on it, it is gone,
for suddenly it sprouts wings,
flying like an eagle toward heaven.

Ecclesiastes 2:11 English Standard Version (ESV)

11 Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 4:8 English Standard Version (ESV)

one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks, “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.

Hebrews 13:5 English Standard Version (ESV)

Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
